What things have you made?
I have made two animations, one based on the power of superstition and the other based on memory and the eternal present. I also made a photography based piece which looked at the spectatorship and the geography of the event in comparison to the ancient Roman metaphor, called bread and circuses.
what you experimented with?
I used adobe image ready for the first time during this module, i also used CS2, this is the program in which I created my two animation projects. I also tried to combine my work from 300mc into this module to create more carefully considered ideas.
I looked at the themes of superstition and repetition in terms of power. Noam Chomsky Derren brown
I looked at the spectator and their relationship with the spectacle in terms of the boundaries set by it and a potential reality that is conveyed within it. F1 Military
I looked at Memory blocks, arguing that our minds fill up, however we don’t always forget things over time, instead they become embedded in our mind and become replaced by the present.
What has worked?
The animating process I felt was successful in terms of its technical application, although i have since learnt a far more convincing process in terms of creating a more complex piece using software I have not tried before. Overall the messages iIwanted to put across were conveyed adaquetly.
In terms of my understanding of the themes I felt they’ve been understood better than in previous years.
what has pleased you?
I’m happy with technical outcome of my first animation piece, I enjoyed re-creating the interactions and pacing of an animal in animation form. I’ve enjoyed looking at the three themes in general.
what has gone wrong?
The frame rate of my animations varied depending on which program they were played in, this is something that was very difficult to correct. I was also not able to include sound in my pieces because of the effect external programs had on the fludity of the animation. I’ve since dabbled with a number of potential solutions to this problem, however I’d need to download the correct software for it.
Bloom of some of my ideas into a coherent project idea
what have you learnt?
A far deeper understanding and acceptance of the three themes of the module.
Technical skills in Adobe Flash.
Keeping and maintaining a professional looking blog and adding useful features to it.
what work has influenced you and how?
The shock doctrine video relates to my 300mc essay that I am writing about, and about the classifications of madness, punishment and the global crisis that can occur from it. One who flew over the cuckoos nest has been quite an influential text, and has helped visualise my reading of Foucault.
Michel Foucault Madeness in society
Michel Foucault Crime and Punish
Psychogeography…potential project avenue
Shop dropping…advertising…artistry
what new things will you try?
Steering clear of the tramlines, perhaps producing media in a print form or a blend of forms. I am studying Business for my add+Vantage and might apply a print project to some of the themes of the modules this term aswell as creating a potential product/artefact.
what are you going to develop?
My Knowledge on the three themes, and applying them in a more experimental sense, perhaps working on the notion of getting them accepted in the mainstream.
Books redundant, why not make potentially life changing theories more widely accepted and/or considered.
